🙅‍♀️ Banned members can no longer see any public group content

Occasionally, organizers are faced with the difficult decision to ban someone from their group. Now, they can rest assured that their group’s activity is completely hidden from the banned member.

Previously, a banned member would be blocked from rejoining the group, but could still view information on the group’s public pages.

With this recent change, a member cannot to see any public details of the group they were banned from*. This includes:

  • The group’s homepage
  • The group’s events homepage (including past events and calendar)
  • The group’s individual event pages (including attendees list subpage)
  • The group’s feedback overview page
  • Group discussions
  • Group photos

*This only applies if a member is logged into the Meetup account which was previously banned. As a result, there’s the possibility that a banned member can still see group information while using a web browser if they aren’t signed into their account. For extra security, we recommend you only share sensitive content, like contact information or home locations, in the private comments for individual events.

See additional details about how to ban a member in this article and please make sure to report any inappropriate behavior to our team. This way, we can keep Meetup a positive and safe community for everyone!
